  Project Purpose:
The Denver Environmental Strategies Project was designed to work with a diverse group of regional environmental managers and policy makers to consider the importance of different environmental issues from a new perspective. This perspective involved examining local environmental issues in terms of progress made, current risks to human health and welfare, and setting priorities for future action.

  Ranking Process:
The Environmental Strategies Project for Metro Denver involved four distinct phases:

Phase 1 - Analysis of issues
Phase 2 - Setting priorities across issues
Phase 3 - Development of the agenda for community action
Phase 4 - Communicating the results

The ranking took place during Phase 2. In the first part of this phase, five Work Groups (Outdoor Air, Hazardous Waste, Drinking Water, Surface Water, and Indoor Air) worked together to construct rankings based upon health risks. Based primarily on the efforts of the Work Groups, the Advisory Committee conducted a post-risk assessment survey to construct a draft list of priorities. After further deliberation and consideration of supplementary materials, such as the Overall Rankings provided by Industrial Economics, Inc., the Advisory Committee concluded Phase 2 by identifying the five Highest Priority Issues.
