  Project Purpose:
To identify and compare environmental risks facing Kentuckians. A goal of this project was to collect information that would assist state government in setting priorities for risk reduction and risk management.

  Ranking Process:
"Kentucky Outlook 2000: A Strategy For Kentucky's Third Century was divided into two tracks: the Comparative Risk and the Futures. As part of the Comparative Risk Track, the Technical Committee's three subcommittees (Human Health, Ecological Health, and Quality of Life) examined and ranked a list of environmental factors and hazards in relation to seven specific issue areas: air quality, water quality/quantity, land quality, waste, food safety, indoor environmental quality and safety, and protecting/maintaining biodiversity. The Public Advisory Committee then integrated the Technical Committee rankings with public opinion surveys to construct a list of Critical Environmental Risks and Action Strategies.

All of the above stakeholders groups, except the General Public, had representatives on at least one of the Technical Committee's Subcommittees or the Public Advisory Committee. The General Public participated through a series of town meetings across the state, typically sponsored by Local Conservation districts and coordinated by the Public Advisory Committee.
