  Project Purpose:
The Maine Environmental Priorities Project was established to undertake two ambitious tasks: first, to identify, compare and rank environmental problems facing Maine based on scientific information and public values; and second, to propose management strategies to address these environmental problems.

  Ranking Process:
The Maine Environmental Priorities Project was divided into two phase:

Phase 1 - Consensus ranking of environmental risks facing Maine
Phase 2 - Four environmental issue task forces

The ranking took place during Phase 1. During this phase, the Steering Committee constructed a Consensus Ranking of Environmental Risks based upon the extensive information in the reports of the Technical Working Groups, information gathered in the public involvement process, and their own expertise.
